CW: Positivity shaming

This week’s Fix-It Friday post features an Instagram post from Fitspot, a workplace wellness company that touts its business relationship with Tinder prominently on its website. I bring that connection up not to mock either Fitspot or Tinder, but to point out that Fitspot is worth paying attention to: it has a client that is a household name. And really…I don’t have more to add. Enjoy the nonsense!

The image shows a screenshot of an Instagram post by Fitspot (fitspotwellness). The post has a green background with dots and scribbles. A white text box says, “morning gratitude: when you wake up, spend 5 minutes and set an intention for your day.” The post has 26 likes. The caption is framed by two smiling emojis and reads, “Good morning sunshine” and it has the hashtags, “#gratitude #morningthoughts #wellness #positivity #vibes #wellnesstips #feelwell #bewell #fitspot.” I have added text to the image. A text box reads, “Gratitude and intention AREN’T THE SAME THING.” To the left of the image, I have added text that reads, “My list of intentions: 1. Smash the patriarchy 2. Pet cats and dogs whenever possible 3. End capitalist exploitation 4. Maintain facade of being an Actual AdultTM 5. Critique diet culture 6. Look at some birds 7. Understand that intent doesn’t mean anything if I don’t follow through with action.” Below the image caption I have written, “ONLY MY MOM GETS TO CALL ME SUNSHINE.” Below the hashtags I have written, “Still unsure how gratitude and intention are related, but I do know that Fitspot is trying to force positivity on me, which makes me GRUMPY. #contrarianvibes #feelwellonmyownschedule #willtheycounteyerollingasexercise.”
